Things to do in Butte and in the Butte area -

Parks

We have several parks for you to rest and relax in.  What is it that you want to do?

If you just want to set a while and watch the world pass by then you need to visit our Centennial Park, located at 615 Thayer Street ( Dark Green Square on map below ).

We have a gazebo with benches (above)
as well as this cedar bench just begging for you to come and sit awhile.

This is just the place to get that much needed "Rest and Relaxation".

We have a small park located on the grounds of the former Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School (731 First Street - Blue Square on map below).  The Catholic Church has donated the building and playground area to the town.  Located here is a slam-dunk basketball court and a swing set.

Butte Community Historical Center and Museum
The school has been turned into the Butte Community Historical Center and Museum. The two-and-one-half story Renaissance Revival building was designed by William L. Steele, a student of famed Frank Lloyd Wright, and is featured on the National Register of Historic Places. The Museum is open for tours by appointment. Call Mardell Schroeder at 605-384-3509, Jane Brewster at 402-775-2534, or Karen Knepper at 402-775-1215. You don't want to miss our world wide rock collection donated by Oscar and Zelma Peterson.  We also have many local historical items for you to see.  Plan to step back in time. Admission Free.

The main Butte Park is located at Highway 12 and Butte Street (bright green square on map below).  Here you can play tennis or basketball.

Do you want to ride a train?  Maybe you want to dig in the sand with a sand digger or swing or play on the slide.

Sound like fun?

Bring your picnic lunch and enjoy it in the shade.

We have two camper hook ups that have water and electricity at this park.  See the Village Office (520 Thayer Street) for the $5.00 a day fee.

Hook Ups for Campers

We have several places to hook up your camper.  Two hook-ups were listed above at the park.  We also have small Trailer Park that has hook-ups for 4 campers. These non-pad hook-ups sites have water and sewer. This trailer park also has a trailer dump station.  Contact Gary Sedlacek at 775-2596.  The camper park is located on the corner of Center and Walnut Streets (light blue square on map below).

Ballfield
The Pete Anderson Memorial Ballfield  is located on the north end of  Thayer Street just across Highway 11 (Yellow Square on map below).  Almost every night of the week during the summer you can find a game to watch.

Go To Jail

Have you been in our Historical Boyd County Jail (Pink Square on map below)?  We are in the process of restoring our 1915 jail (one of three jails in the state like this one).

The jail was used until 1983 and many people have spent some part of a day or night in this "fine lodging facility".The jail has 2 cells and each cell held 4 persons.  It also has a unique square sink.  The jail is significant for use of tudor-style motifs. Tours are available by calling Barb Reiman at 589-1166.

Come and visit --- we won't make you stay too long!!!!!
